Power transducers are used to measure true electrical power delivered to a load and then convert that measurement in to a DC voltage or current signal proportional to the power that has been measured.
A power transducer needs to monitor the voltage and current in a circuit to accurately measure power. Also, a power transducer must be able to accurately establish the phase relationship between the voltage and current, which is the angle by which the current leads or lags the voltage.
Analogue power transducers, such as Hall effect versions provide good accuracy even with poor discontinuity and regulation. Electronic power transducers with sampling or pulse width/height multipliers are highly accurate but have problems with discontinuity and poor frequency regulation.
