Linear transducers are utilised when you need to measure a distance in a straight line, converting displacement into an electrical signal that is proportional to the amount of displacement.
Linear transducers detect movement by utilising primary and secondary windings with a separate circular core that has been designed to pass through the middle of these windings. The primary winding is driven with an AC supply and as the ferrite passes through this induces a voltage in the secondary windings. Linear transducer displacement can be up to several inches in length and operates as an absolute displacement sensor with repeatable and reproducible results.
