These cooling devices allow excess heat to be evacuated from electrical equipment cabinets and can function without a filter in dry, dusty environments which extends their service period intervals. Enclosure cooling units have limited moving parts which can reduce vibration and are fitted with internal and external circuit protection. 

Enclosure cooling units typically come in roof or side-mount versions and economy-mode units use intelligent operating systems, starting and stopping the fans when needed, to maintain temperatures and reduce energy use.
