A optical encoder is an electromechanical sensor device that uses infrared emitting diodes, infrared detectors and an optical grating to convert angular position or motion to an electrical signal. The light shines on to the optical grating which has been designed to allow or block the passage of light with opaque and clear segments. The optical detector detects the lights passage and generates a corresponding signal as the optical grating is moved via a shaft input. This digital information is then transmitted to the data processor
Optical encoders are capable of producing precise digital signals making them the ideal option for use in high precision devices such as computer mice and photo copiers, medical devices and production processes that demand a high degree of accuracy.
Kempston Controls stocks an select range of optical encoders from market leading manufacturers such as Hengstler and Baumer designed to suit many applications. Give our dedicated sales team a call on +44 (0) 1933 411411 or use the contact form above to discuss your optical encoder requirements.
