Shunts are used to measure how much current is flowing in and out of the battery, or for establishing how much power is being generated and are utilised for many uses within many industrial applications
Commonly, Shunts are used within renewable energy systems such as wind turbines or solar panels, where they measure how much current is flowing in and out of the battery, and power generation. If high frequency noise is an issue, a shunt with a capacitor can be used by redirecting noise to ground before the signal reaches the circuit elements.
Shunts can be installed within a DC disconnect enclosure with a negative conductor between the battery and an inverter. In systems with several inputs and outputs which require monitoring they can feature multiple shunts. They can also be used in digital meters and coil panel meters for measuring current in DC and can be used for overload protection in control devices such as power supplies and battery chargers.
