Toggle Switches

Toggle Switches are one of the most common and basic of all electrical switches, one everyone will be familiar with is a simple light switch. A toggle switch moves its contacts to either make or break a circuit. A toggle switch is a momentary switch, which energise a circuit when it has been actuated and then de-energise the circuit once the actuator is released. This is accomplished via a spring mechanism that exerts a small degree force on the armature inside the switch itself that works to hold it in the closed or opened position but requires little effort to switch its status.

Toggle Switches come in a variety of contact configurations including the most common, the single pole single throw (SPST) switch, most light switches are SPST toggle switches. Additional variants of Toggle Switch feature contact configurations that include SPDT, DPST and DPDT for the switching of various electrical circuits. You may also find Toggle Switches such as SPCO configuration, which feature an off position in the middle of the switch and are used to energise or de-energise two different circuits.
