What are bottle fuses?

Bottle fuses are named after their unique bottle shape that features different sized ends to prevent the wrong fuse from being inserted into a particular electrical circuit. Bottle fuses or D-Type fuses contain a link that breaks during an overload or short circuit scenario to protect the rest of the electrical system. Bottle Fuses are mainly used for light industrial applications, such as PLC and CNC control panels.

How do bottle fuses work?

Bottle fuses are installed into an electrical circuit in the similar way to a regular cartridge fuse, by inserting into a suitable holder. In the case of bottle fuses they only have one way of insertion due to the different sized terminal ends. When a bottle fuse blows, the coloured indicator at the head of the fuse pops out to let the user know that there is a problem.

What types of bottle fuse are available?

There are two types of bottle fuse available in the market:

gL/gG – this bottle fuse is slow blow, designed to protect cables and conductors from damage due to overload and short circuits.

gR – this bottle fuse is super-fast blow, and protects semiconductors such as diodes and silicon controlled rectifiers (SCRs)
