What is a Busbar? 

A busbar is a metallic bar or strip, usually made of copper, brass or aluminium, which you will find typically housed inside an electrical control panel or consumer unit, containing various electrical switchgear such as MCBs and RCDs. Here, they assist in connecting and distributing a common power feed across various connected devices. 

What do Busbars do? 

A typical copper busbar performs no structural functions, instead it assists in distributing power from a supply point to several output circuits. Available in a variety of shapes, such as flat strips, rods, and solid bars. Some of the shapes of these busbars allows for the rapid dissipation of heat due to their high surface area to cross-sectional area. 

What are Flexible Busbars? 

As the name suggests flexible busbars are just that, constructed from copper foil that is diffusion welded at the mounting points for durability and rigidity. This design allows for a flexible mid-section with rigid mounting zones. These busbars have excellent shock and vibration resistance, high offset tolerance, suitable for numerous applications including electric vehicles, power generators etc. Other types of busbar include comb busbars, typically 3 phase and single phase, which are used primarily to distribute power to switchgear components such as MCBs
