Non-Latching Relays

What is a Non-Latching Relay?

Non-latching relays begin in a Normally Closed (NC) position and they will stay in this orientation without any applied power. However, when power flows through the relay’s coil the relay switches to a Normally Open (NO) position which is maintained while power is applied.

Once the power is turned off the non-latching relay returns to its static NC position. Non-latching relays are ideal for pushbutton switch applications like keyboards and micro-controller buttons.

What are Non-Latching Relays used for?

Non-latching relays have multiple applications being very durable and hard wearing and are perfectly suitable for use in a wide range of uses including household appliances, vehicle systems, industrial machinery, and medical and telecommunication equipment.

What’s the difference between Latching Relays and Non-latching Relays?

Similar in functionality to a non-latching relay but with an obvious difference, a latching relay will stay in it the position it had when it was last powered up, as opposed to a non-latching relay which returns to a NC position when power is removed.

Kempston Controls, a leading supplier of electrical and electronic components, stocks an extensive range of non-latching relays from all the leading brands including FinderOmronSchneiderSiemens and many more.
