Surge Protection Unit, Type 1, 2, 3 for 3 Phase Systems

This dependable surge protector unit has been created to protect systems against transient overvoltage’s or surges from lightning strikes and from electrical switching events. This surge protector is a combined type one, two and three surge arrester housed in a robust steel powder coated enclosure. Durable, this unit is suitable for use in harsh environments such as airports, hospitals, industrial premises, or residential tower blocks.

What equipment does a Surge Protector protect?

Suitable for installation at zone LPZ 0 for flashover protection through to boundary LPZ 3 where surge currents are limited by shared interfaces. Used on main distribution boards for buildings with a Class III or IV structural LPS fitted or exposed 3 phase power lines where no LPS is fitted. This unit helps protect valuable equipment such as computers or medical equipment and other dedicated machinery, from data loss and costly damage. Typically installed in a distribution board, protecting the circuit from transients, or combating over-voltages in electrical switching applications.

This 3-phase protector is in compliance with IEC 61643-11, with low let-through voltage between all sets of conductors (phase to neutral, phase to earth and neutral to earth). Full mode protection handles partial lightning currents while electronic equipment operates uninterrupted as any surges are diverted away to earth.

Built in Status Warnings

Versatile, this surge protector features multiple thermal disconnect technology that allows removal from defective supplies without causing issues. An active voltage-free contact warns of phase loss from blown fuses, power down, faulty wiring, earthing issues, or unbalanced conditions. Warnings of status can be easily linked to a building management system, alarm, or an indicator.

The front panel display lights show the status of each individual phase and neutral, providing advanced pre-failure warning. Green indicates normal operation; red denotes attention or replacement.

Technical features and benefits

  • Very low let-through voltage (enhanced protection to IEC/BS EN 62305) between all sets of conductors (phase to neutral, phase to earth and neutral to earth - Full Mode protection)
  • Full Mode design capable of handling high energy partial lightning currents as well as allowing continual operation of protected equipment
  • Innovative multiple thermal disconnect technology, for safe disconnection from faulty or abnormal supplies (without compromising protective performance)
  • Three way visual indication of protection status
  • Advanced pre-failure warning so you need never be unprotected
  • Remote indication facility allows pre-failure warning to be linked to a building management system, buzzer or light
  • Changeover active volt-free contact enables the protector to be used to warn of phase loss (i.e. power failure, blown fuses, etc)
  • Unique flashing warning of potentially fatal neutral to earth supply faults (caused by incorrect earthing, wiring errors or unbalanced conditions)
  • Robust steel housing
  • Protector base provides ultra-low inductance earth bond to metal panels
  • Convenient holes for flat mounting
