Vision Sensors
How does a vision sensor work?
Vision
sensors operate by performing an initial inspection by firstly locating the
object in the image, then looking for specific features of that part. A vision
sensor visually inspects the object within the sensors field of view for its
orientation or if any parts are missing or misaligned. A network of vision
sensors can be easily linked to plant and control system networks providing
data for process control monitoring.
Depending
on the specific system or application, the vision sensor software will
configure the camera parameters, making pass or fail decisions, communicate
with the factory floor and offer HMI development. Most vision sensors provide
single and multipoint inspection and can easily be integrated into other applications
and help provide simple inspection and communication systems.
What is
multipoint inspection?
During
inspection a vision sensor can perform multipoint inspection, in essence this
is the comparison of a known standard of an item to that being viewed by the sensor. A multipoint inspection will identify
issues with missing components, incorrect orientation, damage and so on, and produce
a signal for interpretation by the control system.
