Limit Switches

Limit Switches are popular form of contact proximity sensor device found in many industrial applications.  A limit switches general construction consists of an actuator that is mechanically linked to a set of output contacts and when a piece of processing machinery or a production part comes into contact with the actuator it causes the limit switch contacts to close or open its contacts, making or breaking the electrical circuit.

Limit Switches general consist of 3 essential component parts – the actuator head, which is the part of the limit switch which comes into contact with an object to close or open an electrical circuit. Actuators heads can come in a variety of operating types including rotary, linear and perpendicular. The Limit Switch body is the second component part, containing the electrical contacts and the final component is the electrical contact terminals which can consist of numerous contact variations including SPST, SPDT, DPDT and others.

Limit Switches are available with a broad range of actuator types, determined by the force required, their mounting position and objects that are being detected.  Actuator types include, rotary lever, plunger, spring rod, rod or loop, forked, plunger and many more.
