Kempston Controls Electronic Components Distributor of Emerson Aventics

Emerson Aventics

The History of Emerson began in 1890, two Scotland-born brothers, Charles and Alexander Meston, saw a tremendous business opportunity in developing reliable electric motors. A former Union army officer, judge and lawyer, John Wesley Emerson, provided the financial backing and together they establish The Emerson Electric Manufacturing Company in St. Louis, Missouri, initially constructing electric motors, but by 1892 they had begun manufacturing electric fans as well.

The Emerson ceiling fans soon became responsible for half of the company’s turnover, with various fan blade iterations proving ever more popular. By 1903, they had designed a ½ horsepower electric motor that became widely used in washing and sewing machines.

Surviving the great depression of the early 20th Century the company made advances in mass production and released a range of innovative new motors and fans. By 1938 Emerson had added the design and manufacture of Arc welders to its product portfolio. With the outbreak of WWII Emerson shifted its production to the manufacture of shell casings and aeroplane gun turrets in support of the war effort.

During the following decades that followed Emerson expanded its portfolio acquiring an assortment of companies, vastly diversifying its product offering and manufacturing abilities. By 2000, the company had seen 43 years of consecutive growth and had expanded into providing reliable back-up power solutions for the telecommunication industry and building infrastructures to support internet protocol-based communications.

Further acquisitions followed, including brand names such as Avansys, Marconi’s outside plant and power business, Motorola’ embedded communication and many others including Aventics in 2018. This merger resulted in the Emerson Aventics brand, a world leader in the provision of smart pneumatic technology and air processing solutions. This successful combination rapidly expanded their offer, creating one of the broadest portfolios of enhanced fluid control and pneumatic devices in the marketplace.
