Power supplies are an essential component part of many industrial installations, designed to provide a stable and reliable source of power to a wide and varied range of electrical equipment. A power supply (PSU) is situated between the primary electrical circuit and the equipment it is intended to supply power to, changing the original power source to the correct voltage, frequency and current required by the equipment in question to use safely.

A power supply is utilised to reduce a single or three phase electricity supply down to a voltage that is usable as well as converting the current to a safe level that could, for example, be used to power a small 12 Vdc fan or pump. Typically, there are 3 primary types of power supply: unregulated, linear and switch mode PSU, available in a variety of mounting options including DIN rail and panel mount versions.
