Speed Sensors
Speed sensors come in a wide variety of variants including,
hall effect, RF, optical, inductive, intrinsically safer and variable
reluctance amongst others.
The primary function of speed sensors includes monitoring
the speed of a cam shaft or wheels of a vehicle, to a conveyor belt within a
processing installation. An active speed
sensor (magneto resistive) is typically a magnet and hall
effect sensor that provides a digital output to a control system with no
signal conditioning required. Passive speed sensors (variable reluctance)
produce an analogue voltage output when a target rotates past its sensory face,
requiring a dedicated electrical interface to process the output into a viable
digital signal.
