Flow Sensors

What is a flow sensor?

A flow sensor is a sensory device that is used to measure linear, nonlinear, volumetric or mass flow rate of a liquid or a gas passing through it. Flow sensors typically consist of a primary device, transducer and a transmitter. As fluid passes through the primary device the transducer senses this movement and then the transmitter produces a usable signal.

What types are the different types of flow sensor?

Flow sensors come in many variants including a water flow meter, ultrasonic flow meter and a liquid flow meter that measure the volume of fluid passing through them. Velocity flow sensors measure the velocity of a flowing stream, typical examples include magnetic, turbine, vortex shedding and fluidic flow sensors. Mass flow sensors measure the mass of a flowing stream and include devices such as an air flow meter and Coriolis mass and thermal flow meters.

Kempston Controls stocks a comprehensive range of flow sensors from market leading manufacturers such as HoneywellTurck BannerGEMS and many more designed to suit numerous applications.
