Easter Closure

We will be closed from 29th March for the Easter Bank Holiday, re-opening Tuesday 2nd April. You can continue to purchase online but orders will not be processed until the 2nd. You may however continue to use our out-of-hours service.

Current Transducers

Current transducers often referred to as current sensors, detect the electric current in a wire and generates an electrical signal that is proportional to the current value that has been detected. The signal that has been generated could be analogue voltage, current or a perhaps a digital output. This generated signal can then be utilised to display the measured current in an analogue or digital ammeter, or utilised to control another circuit.  Current transducers are generally available in either open-loop or closed-loop versions.

Open-Loop sensors measure AC and DC currents and provide an output voltage proportional to the measured current without using a feedback control mechanism. The preferred sensor of choice in battery-powered circuits due to its low power consumption and physical size. Potential applications including variable speed drives, UPS overcurrent protection and welding machines.

Closed-Loop sensors depend on feedback control to provide an output that is proportional to the current being measured. Sometimes called a Zero-Flux sensor, it features a Hall-Effect sensor that feeds back an opposing current into its secondary coil. Closed-loop sensors are often used when high accuracy is paramount.

Kempston Controls stocks a select range of current transducers from market leading manufacturers such as Honeywell and Frer, designed to suit many applications.
