RCDs

A Residual Current Device (RCD) is a circuit protection device used to detect and trip against dangerous earth leakage currents, protecting users and equipment against electric shocks. An RCD disconnects the circuit whenever it detects that the current is not balanced between the live and neutral conductors due to a fault of some kind, such as a damaged cable. RCDs are widely used and suitable for a vast range of  industrial installations and applications.

Typical types of RCD include Type A RCDs which are ideal for circuits using AC and DC power and are often found in domestic applications, while Type B RCDs respond to higher frequency current and are used with 3 phase equipment. Type AC RCDs are designed to be used for alternating sinusoidal residual current and are effective for equipment which is resistive, capacitive or inductive and fitted with minimal electronic components.

Kempston Controls, a leading stockist of electrical and electronic components, has a select range of RCD of all types from market leading brands such as ABB, General Electric, Legrand to suit whatever your electrical installation requires.
