Rotary Solenoids

Rotary solenoids are electromechanical devices that convert linear motion to rotary motion by the action of ball bearings that move along an inclined race. When the coil is energised the armature assembly is pulled towards the stator and rotated through an arc determined by the bearing race.

Rotary solenoids consist of a coil of wire, assembled and wrapped around a centralised metal core. Rotary solenoids operate under the same principle as linear solenoids, but exert a rotational force as opposed to a push-pull force.

Found in thermal imaging and laser applications, rotary solenoids are ideal when fast and reliable shutter action is required. The rotation and high-torque of the rotary solenoid also makes it ideal for a range of locking mechanisms.
