Surge Supressors

What are surge suppressor units?

Surge suppressor units are electrical circuit protective devices used to ensure that electrical equipment contained within an electrical network is not damaged by a sudden voltage spike (voltage transients). Electrical surges can be caused by a lightning strikes, switching impulses or some other kind of electrical fault within the electrical network.

How do surge suppressors work?

Surge suppressor units protect electrical circuits and associated downstream devices by blocking or diverting the excess voltage to the ground and are triggered when the voltage exceeds a predetermined threshold. Surge suppressors are generally mounted onto other equipment such as electrical circuit contactors.

Surge suppressor units come in a multitude of differing styles, often brand specific, along with other considerations such as the maximum surge current they can contend with and the type of electrical device they have designed to be installed into.

Kempston Controls, a leading stockist of industrial automation and control components stocks a select range of surge suppressor units from market leading brands including SiemensWiedmuller and more.
